Gaza: The worsening malnutrition crisis in Gaza is now directly impacting the availability of blood for hospitals, according to Sahar Ghanem, director of the Health Ministry’s department of medical laboratories and blood banks.
According to reports, Ghanem detailed the urgent situation facing medical facilities across the besieged enclave, stating that blood stock is dangerously low in all hospitals, and the number of donors has dropped sharply due to widespread hunger and nutritional deficiencies.
With Gaza already suffering under relentless Israeli bombardment and a near-total blockade on medical supplies, the additional burden of a collapsing blood donation system raises alarms for doctors treating thousands of wounded civilians.
Health officials say that even when potential donors come forward, many are too physically weak or malnourished to safely give blood. The Health Ministry is now calling for immediate international assistance, including the urgent delivery of blood units from abroad and advanced equipment for testing and storage.
As hospitals operate under extreme conditions—struggling with power outages, medicine shortages, and overcrowding—the inability to maintain sufficient blood supplies adds another deadly dimension to Gaza’s humanitarian emergency.
